Used at MF and HF to provide an RF ground for an antenna<\/q>&#8220;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article about <a href=\"https:\/\/myantennas.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Counterpoise-VK1OD.pdf\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8220;counterpoise&#8221; by Owen Duffy, VK2OMD ex VK1MD <\/span><\/a> addresses many issues with the term. &#8220;<strong><em>Counterpoise means all things to all hams, because of its lack of clear and unique meaning, wise authors avoid its<br \/>use. Let\u2019s explore a rational meaning based on the roots of the word. The simple answer is: NONE! The EFHW antennas will always find the path to low impedance. The most common path is via a coaxial cable shield connected to a low impedance path, such as grounding at the entrance to the home, as mandated by the National Electrical Code NEC-810. Even in the case when the coaxial cable shield is not connected to the secondary winding of the transformer, the path to lower impedance will be achieved by DISPLACEMENT current, see the test showing no change in VSWR measurement with or without the coaxial cable shield used as &#8220;Counterpoise&#8221;. Today, it may be among the most misused terms in amateur circles.
